On October 23, the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition Marking the 81st Anniversary of Taiwan's Restoration under the theme “remembering Taiwan’s restoration and advancing national reunification”was held in Nairobi. The exhibition is jointly organized by Xinhua News Agency Africa Regional Bureau, East Africa Association for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification and Kenya Association for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification. Ambassador Guo Haiyan, Ambassador Erastus Mwencha, former Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and other guests attended the event.

In her remarks, Amb. Guo Haiyan noted that the restoration of Taiwan is a major victorious outcome of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and forms an important component of the post-war international order. Achieving complete national reunification and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation are the shared aspiration of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and all Chinese people at home and abroad. China appreciates that Kenya abides by the one-China principle and supports all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification. We hope that our compatriots in Kenya continue to contribute to the great cause of national reunification and development of China-Kenya relations.

Ambassador Erastus Mwencha expressed appreciation for China’s support to Africa in its struggle for national independence and economic development. African countries will continue to abide by the one-China principle and make active efforts for the growth of China-Africa relations.
