Amb.Guo Haiyan Attends the the Award Ceremony of the 1st Kenya National Wushu Competition

On July 30,the Award Ceremony of the 1st Kenya National Wushu Competition was held in Kasarani Indoor Arena. Ambassador Guo Haiyan, Director for Sports of Ministry of Youth Affairs,Creative Economy and Sports Mr. Joel Atuti, and President of the Kenya Kungfu Wushu Federation Mr. Joseph Njogu, among others, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Guo noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and African countries and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Holding theCompetition within the framework of theExchangeYear not only reflects the flourishing development of Wushu in Kenya and the growing depth of China-Kenya cultural exchanges, but also serves as a vivid example of cultural integration and mutual learning between China and Africa. She expressed the hope that Wushu would gain even wider popularity in Kenya and continue to contribute to the deepening of friendship between China and Kenya, as well as between China and Africa.

The Kenyan guests spoke highly of the development of Wushu in Kenya and commended the values embodied in Wushu. They expressed the hope that Wushu would play an even greater role in enriching China-Kenya people-to-people exchanges and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

The event was jointly organized by the Kenya Kungfu Wushu Federation, the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta Universityand StarTimes Group. More than 40 athletes participated in the event, with five champions crowned across three categories:Quan, Weapon, and Sanda (Full-contact Sparring).
