Ambassador Guo Haiyan Attends Award Ceremony for Winning Kenyan Students of Global ICT Competition
On July 28, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, presented awards to Kenyan student who excelled in the 10th Global ICT Competition at State House. Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan was invited to attend the ceremony and deliver a speech. Officials from Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, representatives of HUAWEI and the award-winning students and teachers attended the ceremony.

In her speech, Ambassador Guo noted that China attaches great importance to the research, development, and application of cutting-edge digital technologies and has fostered a number of globally competitive high-tech enterprises, including Huawei. As a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, Kenya has broad potential for cooperation with China in information and communications technology, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
President Ruto stated that this remarkable success reflects years of deliberate investment in digital infrastructure, skills development and innovation. Kenya is willing to strengthen cooperation with international partners to enhance the competitiveness of domestic digital industry.
The 10th Global ICT Competition was hosted by HUAWEI. Kenya teams received the highest honor of a Grand Prize in Cloud Track. They also grabbed Second prize for two other categories: Network Track and Women in Tech track.
