On September 24, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya co-hosts with the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and Africa Policy Institute a seminar in Naivasha on “Jointly Advance Global Development and Governance: China and Kenya Usher a New Chapter of a Shared Future”. The event was attended by over 70 people, including Ambassador Guo Haiyan, Managing Director of the Kenya Railways Corporation Hon. Philip Mainga, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, representatives of the Kenyan Government, think tanks and international organizations, as well as ambassadors from regional countries to Kenya.

In her remarks, Ambassador Guo Haiyan outlined the four Global Initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, in particular the core concepts of the Global Development Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative and briefed the achievements in China-Kenya cooperation, including the implementation of zero-tariff policy towards African countries. She emphasized China’s willingness to work with all parties to further build consensus and deepen cooperation, so as to join hands to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

All parties spoke highly of the significance of the four Global Initiatives, commended China’s contributions to peace, stability and development in Africa, and looked forward to strengthening coordination and deepening cooperation with China.

In advance of the meeting, the delegates travelled together from Nairobi to Naivasha on Standard Gauge Railway and visited one of Kenya’s first avocado processing companies for export to China.
