On October 20th, President H.E. William Ruto attended the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County. The President reiterated the significance of national unity as well as the common pursuit of development and prosperity. H.E. Amb. Guo Haiyan was invited to attend the celebrations.

Mashujaa Day was formerly known as Kenyatta Day to honor the six freedom fighters, among whom was Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who later became the founding president, who struggled for Kenya’s independence but was imprisoned by the colonial authority on October 20th 1952. Kenyatta Day was renamed by the new constitution promulgated in 2010 as Mashujaa Day to commemorate all Kenyans who contributed to Kenya’s independence and national development.
