On June 1, the Madaraka Day celebrations were held in Homa Bay County, Kenya. President H.E.William Ruto attended and delivered a keynote address. H.E. Amb. Guo Haiyan was invited to attend the celebrations.

As part of the African National Liberation Movements, Kenya attained internal self rule from British colonial rule on June 1, 1963, and declared independence on December 12 of the same year.
