On August 22, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya held a farewell reception for Kenyan students who received the 2024 Chinese government scholarship. Mr. Zhang Zhizhong, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Benedict Watamba, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and Dr. Henry Rotich, Chairman of the Kenya-China Alumni Association attended the event.
Minister Counsellor Zhang Zhizhong congratulated the awardees, said that the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is about to be held in Beijing. He hoped that the students would be inspired by the spirit of President Xi Jinping's reply to the Kenyan students and alumni at the beginning of this year, study hard, and strive to build and spread the friendly cooperation between China and Kenya.
Principal Secretary Inyangala thanked the Chinese government for the long-term strong support for Kenya's education cause and hoped that the students would cherish the precious opportunity to study in China and master China's advanced knowledge and development philosophies.
The awards ceremony of China-Africa Cooperation in My Eyes Competition was held at the same time, a group of excellent works reflecting China-Africa and China-Kenya cooperation were awarded and exhibited. The scholarship awardees also visited the Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway and other China-Kenya cooperation projects during the day.
