On December 20, the completion ceremony of Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages in Kenya was held in Nairobi. Wu Peng, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Hesbon Malweyi, Director-general of Ministry of ICT, and Dr. Katherine Getao, CEO of ICT Authority, and representatives of StarTimes, the project contractor, attended the event.

Amb. Wu said that the implementation of the project would effectively promote cultural exchanges between China and Kenya, greatly enrich daily lives and improve the cultural knowledge of local people. In the future, China's assistance to Kenya would be closely aligned with the Big Four Agenda to help raise the living standards of local people.

Malweyi extended thanks to the Chinese government for such disinterested assistance to the development of the information industry in Kenya. He said that in an era of information, the satellite TV system would be helpful for people to acquire knowledge and information, engage in economic activities, and get access to fair development opportunities. Kenya would continue to support investment in the field of information and communications, promote mutually beneficial projects and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Amb. Wu and Malweyi signed and handed over the official documents at the ceremony.

Launched in June 2018, the project is set to install facilities including the satellite receiving antenna, set-top box, digital TV, projection TV, and solar energy system for 800 villages across Kenya's 47 counties, which will benefit 16,000 rural households and 2,400 public institutions.
