On December 13, 2019, Ambassador Wu Peng was invited to attend the seminar of “China Africa Energy Cooperation under the Belt & Road Initiative and CNPC in Africa Conference” and delivered a speech. Kagwanja, CEO of African Policies Institute, Qian Xingkun, Party chief of the CNPC Economics and Development Research Institute, officials from Kenyan Foreign and Energy Ministries, and representatives of scholars and media from the two countries attended the seminar.

Ambassador Wu congratulated on the opening of the seminar, introduced the background and progress of the “Belt & Road” initiative and made positive comments on the fruitful achievements jointly made by China and Kenya under the initiative. He hoped that the two sides would continue to deepen practical cooperation in various fields and achieve common development.

In his speech, Ambassador Wu stressed that China is committed to building a “clean silk road” and has “zero tolerance” for corruption at home and abroad. China firmly supports Kenyan government in its fight against corruption and always requires Chinese companies to strictly abide by Kenyan laws and regulations. If any Chinese enterprise is involved in corruption, they would be punished not only by Kenyan authority, but also by Chinese government at home.

Kagwanja said in his speech that the China-Africa energy cooperation is a win-win choice. China needs Africa and Africa needs China. The idea that China is plundering Africa's resources is simply wrong. China has strong technological advantages in the fields of energy, power and infrastructure. The cooperation will help improve Africa's energy infrastructure, greatly promote the development of Africa's energy and power industries and improve people's living standards. Africa should actively strengthen cooperation with China, learn more advanced technology and experience from China.
