On the morning of December 6, the Kenya-China Economic and Trade Association (KCETA) held a donation ceremony at the Chinese embassy in Kenya to donate relief materials to the recently flooded West Pokot County in northwest Kenya. Wu Peng, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Ce, the Economic and Commercial Minister-Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, John Lonyangapuo, West Pokot County Governor, Li Changgui, Chairman of the KCETA, and other officials attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Wu Peng read a message of condolence from President Xi Jinping to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and expressed condolences on behalf of the Chinese embassy in Kenya over the disaster in West Pokot. He praised Chinese enterprises for showing their humanitarian spirit and taking the initiative in the relief work and donation of supplies, encouraged them to better fulfill their social responsibilities in Kenya, and wished the disaster-hit areas an early reconstruction.

West Pokot County Governor John Lonyangapuo expressed his deep gratitude to the Chinese embassy in Kenya and the KCETA for their timely donations of living supplies and assistance in repairing roads, which met the urgent needs of the people in the disaster-hit areas and fully demonstrated the friendship between the two peoples.

Li Changgui, Chairman of the KCETA, said at the donation ceremony that the donated materials included food, blankets, mattresses, baby supplies and feminine products. Chinese companies had overcome the difficulties of constant rainfall and impassable roads to ensure supplies reach people in the disaster-hit areas.

Flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall have caused heavy losses in the West Pokot County. According to the report released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on the 5th, 72 people lost their lives, roads were collapsed and nearly 10,000 people were affected.
