Amb. Wu Peng traveled by the Nairobi–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to visit the Naivasha inland Container Port on November 23rd.

Amb. Wu listened to the updates on the project, saying that the inland container port is an import leg of the Mombasa–Nairobi and Nairobi–Malaba SGRs, playing an important role in promoting connectivity within the East African Sub-region. The Chinese and Kenyan governments put high importance on the project. In spite of the short time and arduous tasks, the project is going on in an orderly and rapid way, demonstrating the high-level infrastructure-construction capacity of China.

Amb. Wu expressed high appreciation to those building the port for their passion and hard work, applauding the contribution the project has made to generating jobs for the society, and encouraging all the Chinese and Kenyan workers to continue their hard work to accelerate the construction according to the requirements of the Kenyan government and based on safety and quality of the project, so that the port can be put into operation at an early date and lay the foundation for Nairobi–Malaba freight rail traffic.

The Naivasha inland Container Port is a supplementary project in support of the Nairobi–Malaba SGR, including railway yard, container yard, and connecting road. The Yard itself can create nearly 5000 jobs for the local people. The first phase of the project will have an annual throughput of 2 million tons according to the design, and will facilitate cargo services for the southwest of Kenya, thus effectively lowering logistics cost both in and outside Kenya. The Kenyan President laid the foundation for the project, and came to visit it on November 21st.
