The First PPP Expressway Launched and Nairobi-Malaba SGR Open to Traffic

The construction of the first PPP expressway in Kenya financed and built by CCCC and CRBC was launched on October 16th. On the same day, the first phase of Nairobi-Malaba SGR phase one was completed and open to traffic. President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the Expressway and took the SGR train together with Infrastructure Minister James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma, and Amb. Wu Peng.

In his remarks, President Kenyatta spoke highly of the PPP Expressway and SGR, believing that the major infrastructure projects are milestones in the development of Kenya, which will improve traffic conditions significantly, unleash economic potential, and strengthen Kenya's position as a regional transportation and logistics hub. He expressed on several occasions appreciation and thanks to Chinese businesses for fulfilling their social responsibilities, protecting the environment, creating jobs, and promoting local economic and social development.

Amb. Wu said in his remarks that the launch of the first PPP Expressway and opening of the Nairobi-Malaba SGR phase one will greatly promote Kenya's economic development, elevate regional connectivity and integration, and are new examples of the "Belt and Road" Initiative and China-Africa cooperation. He hopes that Chinese businesses will continue to work hard and ensure success in investment, construction and operation, so as to make new contribution to Africa's prosperity and China-Africa cooperation.

On the same day, Naivasha inland container port and Kimuga hydro project were also formally launched, demonstrating the confidence and determination of Chinese businesses to work together with Kenya for common development and shared prosperity.
