Amb. Wu Peng attended the first China-Africa Mobile Internet Economy Summit on October 15th. Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Permanent Secretary of ICT Ministry Jerome Ochieng, and CAFIC Executive Director Han Hongmei were present at the meeting.

Amb. Wu said that the digital economy plays an important role for sustainable economic growth. The Chinese government attaches high importance to the development of the internet industry, having implemented policy measures including “Internet Plus” and big data strategy. China now has one of the fastest growing digital economies in the world. Enjoying a sound industrial basis, Kenya is one of the most developed countries in East Africa, and boasts broad prospects for the development of mobile digital economy. Kenya is an important participant in the “Belt and Road” Initiative, and China-Kenya business cooperation is deepening. Excellent Chinese companies have played an important role in promoting the development of the internet industry in Kenya. He expressed the hope that more Chinese businesses can flourish in Africa. Amb. Wu also invited Kenyan businesses to attend the second China International Import Expo to showcase their unique products to increase export the China.

The summit is co-sponsored by GSMA, CAFIC, and TECNO. Over 200 representatives from NetEase, Tencent, China Literature, Google, Facebook, Safaricom, MTN, Jumia, Goldman Sachs and UBA were present at the Summit.
